Shawn Taylor Continues Victory Trail at Flamboro Speedway

MILLGROVE, Ontario --- It doesn’t matter which event is running at Flamboro Speedway, it seems Shawn Taylor always find his way to the front. That was the case on Saturday night when the Mini Stocks ran a 40-lap special event.

Taylor has been fast on a weekly basis, and that showed in single car time trials with a lap of 17.945 seconds. He would not start on the pole following the invert, but rather would watch Mike Thomson pace the first couple laps underneath the green flag. His advantage did not last long, with another mustang grabbing the point as Cole Quinton put the No. 18 into the lead on Lap 4.

Quinton, who has won at Flamboro Speedway this year, would pace the field for the next 21 laps, looking poised for the victory. However, it’d be Taylor tracking him down past the halfway mark, getting alongside for the top spot, and coming out on top of their battle for the lead.

Shawn Taylor then led the rest of the way en route to victory, followed by Cole Quinton, Mike Thomson, Karl Sault, and Mike Gilmour. Division points leader Bobby Mercer placed sixth ahead of Cole Ecker, Mike Hooper, and Michael Kenny. Dave Goodacre was the only car to not finish, while Kaitlyn Wallace did not take the green flag.

Pro LM

When it comes to the Late Models, it seems Mark Burbridge has certainly found his footing this season, as evident by another checkered flag in hand after leading flag-to-flag in the first feature. Chris Howse finished second, followed by Rick Burbridge, Connor Pritiko, and Kevin Albers. Trevor Thompson was sixth ahead of Ty Cavallin, Kevin Gallant, and David Gallinger.

Running up front through his rookie season to date paid off for Ty Cavallin, as he took the lead on the seventh lap of the second 25-lap affair en route to scoring his first career Late Model victory. Kevin Albers was second, followed by Connor Pritiko, Rick Burbridge, and Trevor Thompson. Mark Burbridge followed up his win with a sixth ahead of Kevin Gallant, while David Gallinger and Chris Howse did not finish following an incident on-track.

Super Stock

Although it’s been Lane Zardo showing the way in Super Stock competition this season, fans were reminded that he is not the only driver to watch at Flamboro. Veteran Shawn Chenoweth took the top spot on Lap 9 of the first feature, leading the way en route to victory in front of Lane Zardo, Roy Wilkie, Chase Pinsonneault, and Justin Collison, while Austin Penney failed to finish.

Starting at the back for the second 25-lap affair, it took Shawn Chenoweth longer to get to the front, this time taking the top spot with just six laps to go en route to a sweep. Lane Zardo was second once again, followed by Roy Wilkie, Justin Collison, and Chase Pinsonneault, while Austin Penney failed to finish.

Young Drivers Canadian Vintage Modifieds

A familiar name to fans at Flamboro due to past success in both Late Models and Mini Stocks, Jake Gilbert made it happen on Saturday night by winning the first Canadian Vintage Modified feature. TJ Marshall kept his solid campaign going with a runner-up, followed by Scott Tonelli, Ricky Willigar, and Joe Arsenault. Mike Podd’s consistency led him to sixth ahead of Quintin Murdoch, Jae Pepin, and Steve Murdoch, while Rodney Rutherford and Adam Ross failed to finish.

The second feature was a repeat of a sight fans have gotten used to in 2022, with TJ Marshall picking up the checkered flag ahead of Ricky Willigar, Mike Podd, Scott Tonelli, Adam Ross, and Steve Murdoch. Several drivers had issues, from motor issues to wrecks, resulting in them not finishing the feature. Jake Gilbert led the way ahead of Joe Arsenault, Jae Pepin, Rodney Rutherford, and Quintin Murdoch.

Southern Ontario Modifieds

The Southern Ontario Modified Association made an appearance at Flamboro on Saturday night with the Pro 4 Modifieds, with a familiar face winning the first feature. Mark Lucas took the lead with four laps to go to pick up the checkered flag in front of Shannon Morris, Nick Aballe, Ken Mercer, and Robert Mercer, Brian Nanticoke placed sixth, while Shawn Carey and Petit did not finish. Vic Devries would not take the green flag.

The invert for the second 20-lap affair saw Robert Mercer lead flag-to-flag in front of Mark Lucas, Shannon Morris, Nick Aballe, and Ken Mercer. Shawn Carey, Brian Nanticoke, and Vic Devries did not finish, while Dan Pettit did not take the green flag.
